Three NFL Teams Reach Rare 0-5 Milestone, Last Seen 28 Years Ago

For the first time in 28 years, three teams within the same NFL conference have simultaneously started the season with a 0-5 record. The Los Angeles Chargers, Miami Dolphins, and Tennessee Titans now share this unwelcome distinction.

The situation presents varied circumstances for each team. The Dolphins were largely projected to struggle in a rebuilding year, entering the season with a new coach and general manager. Therefore, their winless start through the first five games of October has not surprised many of their fans.

In contrast, Titans fans may have expected a more competitive season. With quarterback Cam Ward in his second year and a new coaching staff, the expectation was to contend in the AFC South, not to be at the bottom of the division.

The Chargers' winless start has been particularly surprising. Entering the season with an offense anticipated to improve under former Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel as offensive coordinator, the team has struggled offensively, ranking 30th in the league in scoring and averaging just 16.8 points per game. The Dolphins are averaging 14 points per game, and the Titans are averaging 11.6 points per game.

While the Dolphins have a bye week and will not play this week, the Titans and Chargers face challenging matchups. The Titans are scheduled to play the Indianapolis Colts (2-3) on Sunday, while the Chargers will attempt to secure their first win against the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
