Terry Bradshaw Expects Fox to Replace Him After Super Bowl LIII
The 78-year-old NFL commentator believes his tenure at Fox NFL Sunday is nearing its end, regardless of his performance.
NFL icon Terry Bradshaw anticipates Fox will replace him as a commentator within the next two years, following the network's broadcast of the Super Bowl in February 2029. The 78-year-old former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, who has been a fixture on Fox NFL Sunday since 1994, suggested in a recent interview with Men's Health that his on-air role is likely to conclude with his current two-year contract extension.
Bradshaw acknowledged that he is experiencing challenges common for individuals in their 70s, including fluctuating emotional states. "I'm 78. I just signed a two-year extension, and I'm pretty sure no matter how well I perform over the next two years, they're going to want to replace me," he stated.
Despite potential viewer calls for a younger replacement due to recent on-air mistakes, Fox recently extended Bradshaw's contract. However, Bradshaw expressed his intention to avoid announcing a retirement date. "I'm not going to announce my retirement, because in two years when we do the Super Bowl, after my contract is expiring, I don't want anybody to do a tribute," he explained. He added that he would not preemptively inform Fox of his retirement plans, leaving open the possibility of further extensions.
In his new book, 'Looking for Terry,' Bradshaw has also openly discussed his struggles with depression and anxiety attacks, which he believes stemmed from undiagnosed ADHD. He recounted experiencing volatile emotional highs and lows throughout his NFL career, noting that such issues were not openly discussed in locker rooms at the time. Diagnosed with depression in the late 1990s, Bradshaw described it as an "ugly disease" but credited his wife, Tammy, for helping him manage his condition and encouraging him to view his struggles not as a weakness but as an illness.
Bradshaw remains a regular on the Fox NFL Sunday show he has been part of since 1994.
