Dominik Szoboszlai has signed a new five-year contract with Liverpool, committing his future to the club until 2031.

The 25-year-old midfielder joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2023 for a reported £60 million and was a key performer for the team last season, contributing 13 goals and 12 assists.

"There's always more to come. I'm never happy," Szoboszlai said. "I want to set the example. I want to be an example also for everyone, as much as I can. When I signed, I said I want to win everything. That didn't change for a little moment either. It stayed the same. I want to win everything that is possible in this country, also let's say the Champions League. I'm ready to go for it."

The Hungary international had two years remaining on his previous contract. The new deal concludes months of negotiations between his representatives and Liverpool's sporting director, Richard Hughes.

Talks intensified in recent weeks, leading to an agreement and signing this week. Both the club and Szoboszlai believe his best years are still ahead of him.

In February, Mohamed Salah, who has since departed Liverpool, described Szoboszlai as "one of the best players in the world."

With Andy Robertson departing Anfield this summer, Szoboszlai is considered a strong candidate to be appointed Liverpool's new vice-captain. He currently captains his national side.

Szoboszlai returned to Merseyside on Tuesday for pre-season training and is expected to join the squad for their upcoming pre-season tour in the United States.
