Olympic champion swimmer Chad le Clos stated that his home in Cape Town, South Africa, was destroyed in a fire on July 30. The blaze occurred while le Clos was competing in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. Several apartments in the block were affected, with le Clos's residence being gutted.

Le Clos, who is 34 years old, had achieved a record 21st Commonwealth Games medal the day prior to the fire, securing a bronze in the men's 4x100-meter medley relay. He shared on Instagram that the fire started in his apartment block and spread to his home, leaving nothing salvageable.

He offered condolences for the death of an elderly neighbor who perished in the fire in the Sea Point suburb. Le Clos announced that his foundation would organize fundraising efforts to assist other neighbors in rebuilding their homes.

Le Clos previously won Olympic gold in the 200-meter butterfly at the 2012 London Olympics. He has accumulated a total of four Olympic medals and 16 world titles. This marked his fifth appearance at the Commonwealth Games, and he has indicated his intention to compete in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
