Sunderland has completed the signing of Austrian defender Kevin Danso from Tottenham on a loan agreement set to last until the end of the current season. The deal includes an option for the transfer to become permanent next summer, for a fee of £22.5 million, contingent on Sunderland securing Premier League status.

Danso expressed his enthusiasm for the move, stating, "I'm really happy to be here and I can't wait to get started. Sunderland is a big club with huge ambition, and I'm excited to be part of what we're building this season."

The 27-year-old defender, who made 52 appearances for Tottenham after joining from RC Lens in January 2025, will strengthen Sunderland's defensive options as the club prepares for its first European campaign since 1973.

Danso's departure from Tottenham coincides with the club's pursuit of Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo. Reports indicate that Tottenham has accepted a bid for Adarabioyo, a move that would add further depth to their defense. Adarabioyo, 28, is a former Fulham and Manchester City player who joined Chelsea in 2020, subsequently making over 70 appearances and contributing to their Conference League and Club World Cup victories. Tottenham is also reportedly close to finalizing a deal for Chelsea attacker Mykhailo Mudryk before the upcoming transfer deadline.
