Steven Caulker Seeks Employment Opportunities on LinkedIn
Former England defender Steven Caulker has openly shared his struggles with unemployment on LinkedIn, stating he is unable to secure interviews despite possessing the necessary qualifications.
Former England defender Steven Caulker has turned to social media platform LinkedIn to express his difficulties in finding employment.
Caulker, who earned one cap for England in 2012, retired from professional football last year and has been pursuing a career in coaching. He recently concluded an eight-month tenure as assistant manager for the Turkish club Konyaspor Kulubu Dernegi in September and is now facing challenges in his job search.
"Being unemployed is stressful," Caulker wrote on LinkedIn. "I've been here many times before, I'm used to the rollercoaster of emotions, but it doesn't make it easier. Applying for jobs for which I have all the qualifications yet am unable to get even an interview hurts, but that does not mean I should panic."
The 34-year-old Caulker emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive outlook during this period. He shared a photo of himself on a run, noting the benefits of physical activity.
"Walt Disney was rejected over 300 times; rejection is part of most people's stories. The bit I find difficult is turning down the jobs that do come my way which are not aligned with my goals," he continued. "Staying calm and composed during these times is important, and adding some kind of structure to my day certainly helps. I've just finished my morning run and feeling pretty good after releasing some endorphins. Have a great Sunday!"
Caulker's LinkedIn profile indicates previous coaching experience, including a role as player-manager for Malaga City Academy in 2024 and assistant manager at Icelandic club Stjarnan from July to November 2025. He was also a founder at Behind the White Lines until October 2025 and is currently involved in his own wellbeing consultancy.
Caulker officially retired as a player in December 2025, concluding a 16-year career that saw him represent 17 clubs, including Tottenham, Swansea, Cardiff, Southampton, Liverpool, QPR, and Fenerbahçe. His most notable moment as a player was scoring on his England debut against Sweden in 2012. He later played internationally for Sierra Leone, accumulating 18 caps before his retirement from that national team in 2024.
