St. John's has named associate head coach Steve Masiello as its new general manager, according to sources. Masiello has been performing the duties of the role for the past two months following the departure of interim general manager Tom Ostrom.
Masiello will retain his position as an assistant coach while taking on the new responsibilities. The program is also looking to hire an additional assistant coach, as Greg Youncofski left for Xavier in the spring. Former Louisville star and assistant coach Peyton Siva is reportedly a potential candidate for the role.
Masiello, 48, previously served as the head coach at Manhattan from 2011 to 2022, leading the team to two NCAA Tournament appearances. He joined St. John's staff as head coach Rick Pitino's top assistant when Pitino took the job.
Masiello has been a key figure in the program's recruiting efforts and has collaborated with Ostrom to assemble the upcoming roster. The team's roster for the next season includes top transfer Tounde Yessoufou from Baylor, European prospects Quinn Ellis and Babacar Sane, and returning players Ian Jackson and Ruben Prey.
