Stephen Fleming is expected to be appointed as the next England Test coach, according to reports. The former New Zealand captain has emerged as the leading candidate to succeed Brendon McCullum, who was dismissed earlier this month.

McCullum's termination followed a period of poor results and several off-field incidents. He will, however, continue to manage England's white-ball teams.

Former England coach Andy Flower had previously ruled himself out of contention for the Test coaching position.

Fleming, 53, is a former international teammate of McCullum's and is now considered the frontrunner for the role. If appointed, Fleming will collaborate with director of men's cricket Rob Key and national selector Marcus North on the selection of a new Test captain. This decision comes in the wake of Ben Stokes' unexpected retirement from international cricket. Stephen Fleming in his role as Texas Super Kings head coach in Major League Cricket
