Dylan Sebock, a defensive end for Southeastern Oklahoma State University, was killed in a rollover crash in Sherman, Texas, while his teammate De'Taurean Johnson, who was driving, faces intoxication manslaughter charges.
Southeastern Oklahoma State University football player Dylan Sebock died at age 23 following a rollover car crash in Sherman, Texas. His teammate, De'Taurean Johnson, who was driving, has been arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter.
The incident occurred around 1 a.m. on Thursday, October 8, on US Highway 75. Sebock and Johnson were ejected from the vehicle, according to reports. Sherman Police responded to calls about a one-vehicle rollover and found the vehicle heavily damaged on the side of the road.
Sebock, a rising senior defensive end for the Savage Storm, was pronounced dead at the scene. Johnson, a senior linebacker, was found in the roadway and attempted to flee on foot when a responding officer approached him. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment before being arrested and booked into Grayson County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
Investigators with Sherman's Critical Accident Investigation Team determined that Johnson's intoxication contributed to the death of Sebock, the passenger. Johnson has been charged with intoxication manslaughter.
Southeastern Oklahoma State University confirmed the incident in a statement released Thursday. "We are deeply saddened to confirm that one student has died as a result of the accident. The other student was hospitalized," the university said. "Our hearts are with their families, friends, teammates, and all those affected by this tragic loss."
Sebock was recognized for his performance on the field, having been named third-team all-conference last season with 32 total tackles. A GoFundMe page has been established by his aunt to help his family with funeral costs and other unexpected expenses. The fundraiser describes Sebock as a goofy, humorous individual who was also a dedicated athlete and teammate.
