South Carolina's Dylan Stewart Suspended Indefinitely After Sideline Outburst
The top NFL draft prospect was ejected for a punch and subsequent argument, leading to his indefinite suspension.
South Carolina Gamecocks edge rusher Dylan Stewart has been indefinitely suspended by head coach Shane Beamer following his ejection from the team's loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide. Stewart was removed from the game after punching Alabama tight end Josh Ford's helmet and subsequently arguing with coaches on the sideline.
Beamer announced the suspension on Sunday, stating that the incident and Stewart's reaction were unacceptable and did not meet the program's standards. "Accountability is a core value in this program and we are all accountable to the standard, so we'll see what that looks like here going forward," Beamer said, as reported by 247 Sports. Stewart will not play in the upcoming game against Kentucky.
Stewart, considered a top prospect for the 2027 NFL Draft, has been a significant contributor for South Carolina. In 2024, he recorded 6.5 sacks and 23 total tackles. The following season, he posted 4.5 sacks and 33 total tackles, earning a second-team All-SEC selection voted on by coaches and an honorable mention All-American nod from Phil Steele.
Stewart's playing status beyond this week remains uncertain as Beamer indicated further discussions will determine his future with the team. The Gamecocks, now 2-2 on the season, are preparing to face Kentucky next Saturday.
