The arrival of pitcher Tarik Skubal to the Los Angeles Dodgers has led to a significant spike in ticket prices for his debut game against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. The cheapest available ticket has risen to $106, a 96.3% increase from the $54 price observed on Saturday before the trade was finalized. Within 72 hours, the cost for a regular-season Tuesday night game nearly doubled.

Fans seeking seats in the lower levels face an even higher cost, with the least expensive 100-level ticket reaching $176, a 20% increase in the past 24 hours. This surge reflects the high anticipation surrounding Skubal joining the Dodgers, who are pursuing a third consecutive World Series title.

Skubal, who previously played for the Detroit Tigers, will wear his familiar No. 29 jersey. The 29-year-old left-hander joins the Dodgers with a 7-5 record and a 2.79 earned run average this season. In his previous two seasons with Detroit, he achieved a 18-4 record with a 2.39 ERA in 2024 and a 13-6 record with a 2.21 ERA last season, earning him two American League Cy Young Awards.

Skubal expressed his excitement about joining the Dodgers, noting the team's strong roster. The Dodgers already boast a formidable starting rotation, featuring Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, with Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, and Shohei Ohtani also working back from injuries. A healthy five-man rotation could be one of the most historically dominant in Major League Baseball during the postseason.

Addressing criticism that the Dodgers are negatively impacting the sport by assembling a star-studded roster, Skubal stated that other teams have the same opportunity to make such acquisitions. He asserted that "the Dodgers do all the right things."

The Dodgers entered Tuesday's game tied with the Milwaukee Brewers for the most wins in baseball and held a commanding nine-game lead in the NL West. The Cubs, meanwhile, are vying for position in the NL Central and also bolstered their starting rotation at the trade deadline, acquiring Kevin Gausman, Clay Holmes, Braxton Garrett, and Ryan Zeferjahn. Tuesday's matchup was already considered a potential playoff preview, but Skubal's debut has elevated its status as one of baseball's most sought-after games.
