Jannik Sinner successfully defended his Wimbledon crown on Sunday, defeating Alexander Zverev in a four-set comeback victory to claim his second consecutive title at the All England Club. The match concluded with a score of 6-7 (7-9), 7-6 (7-2), 6-3, 6-4, marking Sinner's fifth career Grand Slam championship.

Sinner's victory extended his dominant streak against Zverev, who has not broken Sinner's serve in 87 consecutive service games dating back to the 2025 Vienna final. Sinner has now won ten consecutive matches against Zverev, a run that began at the 2023 U.S. Open.

Zverev, who captured his first Grand Slam title at the French Open in June, appeared poised for a quick victory after taking the first set. However, Sinner, the world No. 1, managed to turn the match around. Zverev had one break-point opportunity in the match, but Sinner converted two of his five chances.

A pivotal moment occurred in the third set when the score was tied at 3-3. Zverev slipped while attempting to reach a drop shot from Sinner, appearing to injure his knee. Although Zverev continued playing, Sinner went on to win the game and break Zverev's serve in the following game, ultimately taking control of the final.

This Wimbledon title is Sinner's first Grand Slam of the year. He reached the semifinals of the 2026 Australian Open but was unexpectedly eliminated in the second round of the French Open.

Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz, ranked No. 2 in the world, missed both the French Open and Wimbledon due to injury after winning the Australian Open in February. His availability for the upcoming U.S. Open, which begins August 23, remains uncertain. If Alcaraz is unable to compete, Sinner, the 2024 U.S. Open champion, would be a strong favorite to win.

Zverev will have another opportunity to prove his French Open victory was not an anomaly and to solidify his position among the top players in the sport alongside Sinner and Alcaraz. For now, Sinner remains at the top of the tennis world.
