Simone Biles Details Ongoing Battle with Eczema and Dermatitis

Simone Biles has revealed a prolonged and painful health battle with chronic skin conditions, including eczema and seborrheic dermatitis, which she managed for over two years before receiving a formal diagnosis. The seven-time Olympic gold medalist shared that the severe itching and flaking skin became so intense at times that she would scratch until she bled.

Biles, 29, spoke about her condition in an interview with TODAY, detailing how it impacted her during preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. She explained that the skin issues first appeared on her scalp and arms approximately two years ago, initially causing her to feel self-conscious. Ahead of the Games, she decided to address the visible flaking on her scalp proactively on TikTok to preempt public commentary.

"If people noticed on the TV, I didn't want them to say something before me," Biles stated. "So I was like, I have to address this because you couldn't just avoid it. If they zoomed in, you could probably see it."

The emotional toll continued after the Olympics, as she repeatedly had to explain her scalp condition to new hair and makeup professionals during photo shoots, which she described as feeling "the worst" and initially causing embarrassment and shame.

Initial attempts with over-the-counter products and oils proved unsuccessful. Biles eventually consulted a dermatologist, who diagnosed her with eczema on her arms and seborrheic dermatitis on her scalp. She is now managing the conditions with prescription treatments, using a foam medication for her scalp and a cream for her arms.

"Obviously, (I have) trusted professionals around me and great, great doctors, so I'm doing a lot better," Biles said. "It's still an interesting road, but I am doing a lot better."

Biles also noted that she helped her husband, NFL safety Jonathan Owens, recognize similar symptoms, alleviating his initial denial and concern about contracting the non-contagious condition.

These revelations follow closely after Biles disclosed a separate, severe health scare earlier this year that she described as being "almost died." She has not publicly shared details of that specific medical emergency. Additionally, Biles recently reported that her Porsche was stolen from her Chicago home by three masked intruders, though the vehicle was later recovered.
