Sharma's Blistering Century Leads India to Series Victory Over New Zealand

India secured the T20 series against New Zealand with a dominant performance, chasing down a target of 199 in just 13.2 overs, thanks to a remarkable century from Abhishek Sharma. Sharma's explosive 113 came off just 38 deliveries, featuring nine fours and 11 sixes.

Record Partnership Sets the Tone

Sharma and 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi forged a formidable 133-run partnership for the opening wicket within the first seven overs. Their aggressive play resulted in a powerplay score of 118, setting a new record for international T20 matches. Sooryavanshi contributed a quickfire 45 runs from 19 balls before departing in the eighth over.

Sharma continued his onslaught, reaching his half-century in a mere 15 deliveries. While he fell short of his personal best for India's fastest T20 hundred, which was achieved off 30 balls against Afghanistan last month, his innings of 113 was instrumental in the victory. The remaining 21 runs needed were comfortably scored by India's middle order.

New Zealand's Competitive Total

Earlier, New Zealand posted a competitive total of 198-3 in their allotted 20 overs. Daryl Mitchell was the top scorer for the hosts with 89 runs from 52 balls, supported by Finn Allen's 40 off 25 deliveries. Despite their strong batting effort, the total proved insufficient against India's explosive batting display.

The result gives India a commanding 3-0 lead in the five-match T20 series. The series is followed by five one-day internationals and two Test matches between the two nations.
