Serie A player Yael Trepy is in intensive care after nearly drowning in a pool on Monday. The 20-year-old French footballer, who plays for Cagliari, lost consciousness at a villa in Sardinia and was subsequently airlifted to Santissima Annuziata Civil Hospital in Sassari.
Cagliari confirmed Trepy's condition in a statement, emphasizing the club's ongoing communication with the medical staff and the player's family. "At this time, everyone at Cagliari Calcio is thinking of Yael and his family," the statement read. The club also requested that the player's privacy be respected and pledged to provide further updates.
The incident occurred during a period of downtime for the team following their 1-0 Coppa Italia victory over Arezzo on Friday. Trepy had played 54 minutes in that match, and Cagliari had the subsequent weekend off.
Reports indicate that Trepy is not a strong swimmer and reportedly found himself in the deep end of the pool. Trepy joined Cagliari's academy in 2022 after starting his career with Paris-based club US Creteil-Lusitanos. He has previously scored against AC Milan's youth team to win a notable youth competition in 2025 and scored one goal in eight Serie A appearances last season.
