Real Madrid and Sergio Scariolo have mutually agreed to conclude his time as head coach of the Spanish basketball club. The team announced the decision on Thursday.
Scariolo took over the coaching position last year, following a period with Spain's national team. He had previously coached Real Madrid from 1999 to 2002. Prior to his return to Madrid, Scariolo served as an assistant coach for the Toronto Raptors during their 2018-19 NBA championship season.
During his recent tenure with Spain's national team, Scariolo led the squad to eight medals, including five gold at the 2019 World Cup and the EuroBasket tournaments in 2009, 2011, 2015, and 2022. Spain also secured a silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics and bronze medals at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics and the 2017 EuroBasket.
