Tennis stars Serena Williams and Carlos Alcaraz are set to compete together in the mixed doubles event at Flushing Meadows. The U.S. Tennis Association announced the pairing on Saturday.
Alcaraz expressed his excitement about the partnership on X, formerly Twitter, posting, “Let’s gooooo! (fire emoji)” and tagging Williams.
Williams, who recently returned to competitive tennis after a nearly four-year hiatus, is not expected to participate in singles. She has played doubles at Queen’s Club, Wimbledon, and Cincinnati this summer as part of her comeback. The veteran player is 44 years old.
Alcaraz is making his return to the court for the first time since April, having been sidelined by a right wrist injury. The Spanish player is the defending U.S. Open singles champion and will aim to defend his title from last year.
