Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay expressed optimism Friday regarding the potential return of star defensive player Aaron Donald. McVay suggested that discussions about Donald rejoining the team are moving in a positive direction.
"Things are going in the right direction," McVay said following the Rams' fifth day of training camp. "And if there’s an arrow, it’s turning upwards."
Donald, who has been retired for the past two years, has reportedly been contemplating a comeback. The Rams' acquisition of pass rusher Myles Garrett and the team's aspirations for a Super Bowl may have influenced his consideration.
While no definitive timeline for a decision has been set, McVay indicated that "loose conversations" have occurred between the team and Donald concerning potential return dates. A clearer picture is anticipated once the Rams return to their Woodland Hills facility after their initial training camp period at Loyola Marymount University.
Donald, 35, was a foundational player for the Rams' defense for nearly a decade. During his tenure, he earned three Defensive Player of the Year awards, was named an eight-time All-Pro, and secured a Super Bowl championship. He was widely recognized as one of the NFL's most dominant defensive forces, known for his blend of power, speed, and intensity.
