Seahawks Halt Joe Mixon Signing After Failed Physical

The Seattle Seahawks have canceled their plan to sign veteran running back Joe Mixon to their practice squad after the player failed his physical examination, multiple reports indicated Tuesday.

Instead, the Seahawks intend to sign Robert Henry Jr. from the Washington Commanders' practice squad. The move comes as Seattle seeks depth in its backfield. Rookie Jadarian Price is currently on injured reserve with a chest injury, and Zach Charbonnet is recovering from a torn ACL, although his 21-day practice window has opened. While Emanuel Wilson had a strong performance in Week 4 with 120 total yards and two touchdowns against the Chargers, head coach Mike Macdonald is looking for additional insurance.

Mixon's potential return to the NFL has been stalled by this development. He missed the entire 2025 season due to a severe foot injury, interrupting momentum from a 2024 Pro Bowl season with the Houston Texans where he recorded 1,000 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. Prior to that, Mixon spent seven seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, winning the 2018 AFC rushing title and earning a Pro Bowl selection in 2021 during the team's Super Bowl LVI run.

Mixon's failed physical raises concerns about his current physical condition following his injury and absence from the 2025 season. This setback complicates his path back to an active NFL roster.
