Scottie Scheffler has become golf's all-time leader in career earnings, overtaking Tiger Woods after a dominant performance at the Tour Championship on Sunday. Woods had held the top spot for nearly 26 years.
Scheffler, 30, secured his second FedEx Cup title by winning the Tour Championship in Atlanta, earning $10 million from the event's $40 million purse. This victory pushed his career earnings to over $130 million, surpassing Woods' previous record. Woods' peak earnings came between 1997 and 2008, a period when tournament purses were significantly smaller than current figures.
Scheffler's win at East Lake Golf Club came after he overcame a three-shot deficit in the final round, shooting a 4-under 66. He birdied the 13th hole to take the lead for the first time and maintained it through the final stretch. "This was a week I brought a lot of good energy to the course and tried to do my best," Scheffler stated at the trophy presentation. "Coming from behind and being able to win tournaments is a really cool feeling."
This marks Scheffler's third victory of the 2026 season and second in the last three weeks. He has now won 22 PGA Tour titles in his career, 13 of which were by at least three shots. He also has 25 worldwide victories, including an Olympic gold medal from two years ago in Paris. Scheffler has also won the Jack Nicklaus Trophy, awarded to the PGA Tour player of the year, for the last four consecutive years.
Viktor Hovland finished in second place, earning $5 million, while Ryan Gerard took third. Hovland, who started the final round with a share of the lead, closed with a 72 and experienced several missed putts throughout the day.
While Scheffler celebrates his historic earnings milestone, Tiger Woods faces legal proceedings. He is scheduled for his first court appearance on September 8 concerning a DUI arrest following a rollover crash in Florida earlier this year. Prosecutors obtained Woods' hospital records related to the crash in July, and he has requested a jury trial.
