Scott Morrow Focuses on In-House Training to Secure Rangers Roster Spot
After an inconsistent rookie season, the defenseman spent his offseason at MSG rather than an external facility, aiming to prove his readiness for the NHL.
Scott Morrow dedicated his most recent offseason to training at the MSG Training Center, a deliberate choice to bolster his chances of making the New York Rangers’ Opening Night roster. This decision contrasts with the typical practice of players training at outside facilities with NHL peers.
Morrow's approach comes in the wake of an underwhelming first professional season. The 23-year-old defenseman was limited to 29 NHL games during the 2025-26 campaign, frequently moving between the Rangers and their AHL affiliate, Hartford. He spent the majority of his time with the Wolf Pack, where he was a fixture in the top four defense pairings and finished third among the team's defensemen in points with 19.
During his limited NHL appearances, Morrow acknowledged instances where his defensive play was exposed. His time in the Rangers' lineup was sporadic, reflecting a need for further development to solidify his position at the NHL level.
Morrow's commitment to training within the Rangers' organization signals his intent to adapt and improve. The offseason work is aimed at demonstrating that he has developed the necessary skills and consistency to become a regular contributor for the Rangers in the upcoming season.
