Saracens Rugby Director of Rugby Misses Media Duties Amidst Speculation

Saracens head coach Joe Shaw has declined to comment on when, or if, director of rugby Brendan Venter will resume his media responsibilities. Venter was absent from a pre-match press conference ahead of the team's game against Sale. This follows his no-show at Prem Rugby's pre-season launch day and a lack of media engagement before, during, and after Saracens' opening-weekend victory over Leicester.

The club is reportedly facing fines for Venter's continued absence from media duties. It is understood that Saracens have already incurred a £5,000 fine for Venter's non-attendance at the Prem's pre-season launch day. Shaw stated he would "just talk about the rugby" and leave "the club to talk about where we stand on all those kind of things" when questioned about Venter's media obligations.

Speculation regarding Venter's role has been fueled by reports from The Daily Telegraph suggesting he has "resigned" as director of rugby to take up a new position as "head of rugby culture and wine consultant." However, neither the club nor Prem Rugby has officially confirmed this change. It is believed that any alteration in Venter's job title would not negate his contractual responsibilities.

Saracens had announced in January that Venter would be returning as director of rugby, succeeding Mark McCall, who stepped down at the end of last season after 15 years in the role. The club has yet to publicly confirm any changes to Venter's day-to-day responsibilities.
