Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley and his family were present in their Chester County home when it was invaded early Saturday morning, according to the county’s district attorney’s office.
The incident occurred around 5 a.m. in the Malvern section of Tredyffrin Township. Police responded to a report of a burglary and found that the suspects had fled the scene upon their arrival. Authorities believe one suspect entered the home, but nothing was reported stolen.
"All of the occupants in the home were physically OK, obviously a little unsettled as anybody would be, but nobody was harmed," Capt. Tyler Moyer of the Tredyffrin Township Police Department stated. "We are incredibly grateful that the Barkley family was not injured during this incident. We are asking the public to help us identify those responsible by checking any home security cameras for suspicious activity in the area around 5:00 a.m. If you saw anything unusual or have video that may assist investigators, please contact the Tredyffrin Township Police Department immediately."
Investigators are working to determine the number of individuals involved and are looking into a large white SUV that may have been used in the incident, though Moyer indicated that more than one vehicle could have been involved.
Barkley's home invasion adds to a growing number of incidents targeting professional athletes. In the past year, NBA players Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Sabrina Ionescu experienced similar home invasions. Additionally, Spain's Lamine Yamal's home was targeted just days before a World Cup semifinal match. Several NFL players, including Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, have also been victims of home burglaries in recent years.
"We will look at all angles of this because we know, obviously, it’s been all over the news in the past few years about different professional athletes’ homes getting burglarized," Moyer said.
The Chester County District Attorney’s Office is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
