Sammy Price, a running back who played for the Miami Dolphins from 1966 to 1968, died on Aug. 5 in Waterville, Ohio. He was 82. A cause of death was not immediately revealed.

Price was drafted by the Dolphins in the 11th round of the 1966 AFL draft out of Illinois. He also was selected by the New York Giants in the 1966 NFL draft but opted to sign with the expansion Dolphins a year before the AFL-NFL merger.

During his NFL career, Price's most notable season was 1967. He started nine games that year, rushing for 179 yards and scoring two touchdowns. One of those touchdowns was a 27-yard reception from rookie quarterback Bob Griese, marking Griese's first career touchdown pass. Price finished his three seasons with the Dolphins with 82 rushes for 313 yards and one rushing touchdown, along with 10 receptions for 70 yards and one receiving touchdown.

Before his professional career, Price was a three-year letterman at the University of Illinois. He was a member of the 1963 Big Ten championship team that defeated Washington in the Rose Bowl and was part of the upset victory over Bob Griese's No. 6 Purdue team in 1965.
