The New Orleans Saints have waived rookie wide receiver Brock Rechsteiner, son of WWE Hall of Famer Scott Steiner, as he prepares to serve a six-game suspension to begin the NFL season. The team made the decision to waive Rechsteiner on Sunday, according to reports. The specific reasons behind the suspension remain undisclosed.
Despite being waived, Rechsteiner is eligible to be added to any team's practice squad while serving his ban. The undrafted player out of Jacksonville State had seen his prospects for making the Saints' roster improve following a season-ending knee injury to Bryan Bresee and the unexpected retirement of former Patriots receiver Ja’Lynn Polk at age 24.
Rechsteiner has previously indicated a potential interest in a career in professional wrestling should his NFL aspirations not materialize. He mentioned working out with WWE star Bron Breakker and being convinced by him to consider wrestling after his football career. "I want to play football for as long as I can, give it the best shot I can, but once I'm done playing football, I'll get into it, for sure. I'll be getting into WWE," Rechsteiner told WDSU-TV in May.
During a joint training camp practice with the Dallas Cowboys this month, Rechsteiner was involved in an altercation. Multiple fights erupted between the two teams during the practice session in Oxnard, California. Cowboys linebacker Donovan Ezeiruaku was ejected after throwing punches. Rechsteiner also took down Cowboys safety Jalen Thompson. Several other players were involved in altercations, with Caelen Carson of Dallas seen throwing punches but remaining in the practice.
Rechsteiner played four seasons at Jacksonville State, concluding his collegiate career with 52 receptions for 630 yards and seven touchdowns over 35 games. He participated in the Saints' preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams, which the Saints lost 34-0, recording one reception for five yards.
