Jordyn Tyson, the New Orleans Saints' first-round selection in the 2026 NFL Draft, is facing a potential two-month recovery period after sustaining a hamstring injury during training camp. The injury occurred during a joint practice session with the Jacksonville Jaguars last Thursday.
This setback means the 22-year-old receiver, chosen eighth overall in April's draft, could miss approximately the first two months of his rookie season, potentially impacting the Saints' offensive strategy. If the current timeline holds, Tyson might be sidelined through Week 6 of the NFL season, which would include a road game against the New York Giants and a trip to Paris for the NFL's International Games.
Saints head coach Kellen Moore stated that the injury could sideline Tyson through the start of the season. While there were reports of Tyson seeking multiple opinions on the injury, Moore downplayed speculation that it was related to previous hamstring issues the player experienced at Arizona State. "Any player in that situation probably has the same diagnosis coming out of this," Moore said, referencing the incident where Tyson's foot slipped and he was shoved from behind.
Tyson had been a consistent presence in training camp practices prior to the injury. "He's played really good football," Moore added. "Inevitably, this is the unfortunate part of what preseason and training camp football is. We've already had a few of these guys, that you just have something that comes up and ... we'll just work through it."
The Saints made significant additions to their offense this offseason to support quarterback Tyler Shough, who is entering his second season as the team's starter. In addition to Tyson, the team signed Travis Etienne Jr. to a four-year, $48 million contract and retained Chris Olave on an extension. Alvin Kamara also remains a key part of the backfield.
Tyson, an Arizona State product, emerged on NFL scouts' radar after a breakout 2024 season where he recorded 1,101 receiving yards. Despite dealing with hamstring problems in 2025 that limited him to nine games, he still managed 61 catches for 711 yards and eight touchdowns. His immediate focus now shifts to rehabilitation as the Saints hope for his timely return to the field.
