Roy Keane Calls Manchester United a 'Circus' Amidst Player Criticism
Former captain Roy Keane criticizes Manchester United's internal dynamics following Lisandro Martinez's comments.
Roy Keane, former captain of Manchester United, has described the club as a "circus" following recent remarks by defender Lisandro Martinez that criticized the club's hierarchy. Martinez's comments emerged after Manchester United's 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, a result that extended the team's winless streak to five matches.
Martinez expressed disappointment with the club's lack of squad investment during the summer transfer window, especially after securing Champions League qualification. He stated his expectation of greater investment in the team and more from the technical director, Jason Wilcox.
Speaking on The Overlap podcast, Keane suggested that Martinez's statement is indicative of the club's overall chaotic state. "I think as a reflection of the club, it's obviously chaos there, like a bit of a circus," Keane said. He also questioned the timing of such comments from a player who has not been performing at his peak, particularly when the team is struggling. "When you're going through a difficult spell like United are, the issue I have with certain players saying things is you always have to start with the man in the mirror before you start coming out with all these comments."
Martinez later clarified on social media that his statement stemmed from "anger and frustration."
