Rosenior-Strasbourg Melee Erupts After Ex-Manager's Celebrations
Paris FC manager Liam Rosenior ignited a confrontation with Strasbourg players and fans following his team's victory, citing disrespect towards his family.
A heated on-pitch confrontation occurred between Paris FC manager Liam Rosenior and Strasbourg players after Rosenior's team secured a 2-1 victory over his former club on Saturday.
Following the final whistle at the Stade Jean-Bouin, Rosenior, who managed Strasbourg for 18 months before joining Chelsea last year, engaged in animated celebrations directed at the travelling Strasbourg supporters. Reports indicate he was seen pointing, slapping his chest, and raising his arms towards the fans.
This display prompted several Strasbourg players to approach Rosenior, escalating into a shoving match involving players from both Paris FC and Strasbourg, with Rosenior at the center of the melee.
Post-match, Rosenior explained that his celebrations were a reaction to a "small part" of the Strasbourg fanbase who he claimed had insulted his family. "I understand the context of what they were saying. My bench were visibly upset," Rosenior stated. He emphasized that his actions were a message to those who did not want him to succeed at Strasbourg.
"Strasbourg is a fantastic football club, with great people who work for the club, and great people who support the club," he added. "But when I heard the chants - I understand French, I understand the context, the language - that's a step too far."
Paris FC secured their win with goals from Ilan Kebbal and Pablo Pagis, despite an own goal from Moustapha Mbow for Strasbourg. The victory places Paris FC third in Ligue 1, with three wins and two draws in their opening five matches.
Rosenior further elaborated on the incident in a post-match interview, reiterating his respect for Strasbourg as a club and a city, but asserting that the nature of the chants crossed a line. "So for me to celebrate in the way that I did was for many reasons," he said.
