Rory McIlroy Two Strokes Off BMW PGA Championship Lead After Third Round

Rory McIlroy sits two strokes behind the leaders heading into the final day of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

McIlroy, the world number two from Northern Ireland, made an eagle on the 18th hole during the third round to finish with a three-under 69, placing him at 11-under par. Spain's Manuel Elvira and Italy's Filippo Celli share the lead at 13-under after both carded birdies on the final hole.

The leaderboard remains congested, with 20 players within four strokes of the lead. Alejandro Del Rey, JJ Spaun, and Johannes Veerman are one shot behind the leaders at 12-under.

McIlroy is aiming to win his second Wentworth title and potentially boost his chances of securing a record-equalling eighth Race to Dubai crown. He acknowledged the challenging conditions that have kept the field close.

"There are a lot of people around the leaders," McIlroy said. "I think the conditions over the last couple of days are the reason why no-one has got away from the pack, just because it has played so tricky and difficult."

He added, "I'll probably try not to look at the leaderboards on the front nine, and if I need to play a little bit more aggressively on the back, I'll do it."
