Rory McIlroy, a decorated golfer with six major championships, expressed significant frustration during the Genesis Scottish Open on Sunday after a wayward shot on the 16th hole. "Oh my god, I’m so bad at golf," McIlroy was heard saying on the broadcast after his approach shot landed in the rough, far from the green on the par-4 16th.

Broadcasters on the call offered a lighthearted perspective, with one commentator responding, "I’ll swap you any time." Another added, "A highly relatable sport."

Despite the mishap, which resulted in a bogey on the hole, McIlroy recovered with a birdie on the 17th and a par on the 18th. He finished the tournament tied for seventh place at 12-under par, five strokes behind the winner, Tom Kim. Min Woo Lee secured the runner-up position at 15-under, while Robert Macintyre, Keita Nakajima, Johnny Keefer, and Matt Fitzpatrick tied for third at 13-under.

McIlroy's performance at the Scottish Open followed a strong year. He successfully defended his Masters title in April, holding off Scottie Scheffler, and finished second at the Genesis Invitational in February. He also tied for seventh at the PGA Championship.

Concluding the Genesis Scottish Open with a round of 64 on Sunday, McIlroy acknowledged both the positives and negatives of his play. "Obviously there was some good in there today, but there was some bad as well," he stated. "It’s nice to sign this week off with a good score but I know I need to do a bit of work between now and next Thursday to feel really comfortable with my game." McIlroy will now turn his attention to The Open Championship next week.
