Ron Duguay, a former star player for the New York Rangers, has died at the age of 69. His girlfriend, Sarah Palin, announced his death on social media Thursday, stating he had been battling cancer.

"It’s with a shattered heart, but also deep peace knowing Ron is with Jesus now. He fought so hard. Love never ends," Palin posted on X.

Duguay, known for his distinctive skating style and hair that flowed as he moved down the ice, captivated fans at Madison Square Garden. The New York Rangers organization released a statement mourning his loss, calling him one of the most popular players in franchise history.

"Ron's signature skating style — with his hair flowing as he moved down the ice — captivated The Garden Faithful, and his skill, tenacity, and charisma earned him the admiration of all New Yorkers. We join the hockey community in sending our condolences to Ron's friends, family, and loved ones during this difficult time."

Duguay began his NHL career in 1977 and played six seasons with the Rangers. He also had stints with the Detroit Red Wings and the Pittsburgh Penguins before returning to the Rangers for two more seasons. He concluded his playing career with the Los Angeles Kings. In 864 career games, Duguay scored 274 goals and recorded 346 assists. He continued playing in other leagues until retiring in 1999, having begun his professional career in the Ontario Hockey League in 1973.
