Rodri is reportedly set to join Barcelona from Manchester City for approximately £64.5 million, opting for the Catalan club over a move to Real Madrid due to perceived issues with the latter's commitment and squad harmony.

According to reports citing Spanish newspaper Marca, the midfielder viewed Real Madrid as his dream club, a desire that dates back to 2019. However, he ultimately chose Barcelona after sensing a lack of enthusiasm from Real Madrid's hierarchy. While Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and chief executive Jose Angel Sánchez reportedly contacted Rodri, manager Jose Mourinho was said to be more actively pursuing other players.

Internal doubts within Real Madrid regarding Rodri's playing style, with some reportedly believing he "lingers on the ball too long" and that the club needed a "more dynamic player," also contributed to the decision. In contrast, Barcelona's leadership, including coach Hansi Flick, president Joan Laporta, sporting director Deco, and several squad members, made efforts to persuade him to join their club.

Both clubs reportedly made similar financial offers, but Rodri ultimately preferred Barcelona's perceived stability and playing style. This decision comes as Barcelona secured back-to-back LaLiga titles, while Real Madrid experienced a turbulent end to their last season marked by internal conflicts.

Rodri is leaving Manchester City after a highly successful period, during which he won four Premier League titles, the 2023 Champions League, two FA Cups, three Carabao Cups, the UEFA Super Cup, and the Club World Cup. Barcelona is reportedly hopeful of officially unveiling the player this week, with Rodri expected to sign a four-year contract.
