Former NFL star Rob Gronkowski has simple advice for Caitlin Clark amid the ongoing public discussion surrounding her: "Keep shutting up the haters" with her performance on the court. Gronkowski told Fox News Digital in a recent interview that he believes Clark is handling the intense scrutiny with a "great job."
"She's doing a great job handling herself. She really is," Gronkowski said. "If I was, though, I would kind of handle it very similar to how she's handling it. She really is doing a great job."
Clark and the Indiana Fever have recently found success, winning four consecutive games. During this streak, Clark has averaged over 30 points per game. Her teammates, including Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston, have also been significant contributors to the team's wins.
Gronkowski highlighted the importance of Clark's teammates supporting her. "What I do appreciate, what she's going to need to help with is her teammates. That's who's going to lift you up," he stated. "If you've got your teammates protecting you, that says a lot right there. It really does. And she does. Her team does pick her up. They protect her as well, and that's huge."
The former tight end suggested that Clark could become the face of the WNBA once the league takes action against what he described as "wishwashing" and the "punishment that she's taking out on the basketball court." He believes this, combined with significant wins, will solidify her position. "I think she's going to be the face eventually, like truly where the WNBA steps in and they're like, ‘Okay, like enough of all this wishwashing that's going on with her and the punishment that that she's taking out on the basketball court. Let's truly make her to face the league. I think I would say it once she keeps balling out and also wins something pretty significant," Gronkowski said.
Gronkowski, a four-time Super Bowl champion, noted that in leagues like the NFL and NBA, players typically establish themselves as faces of the league after several years. He described himself as a casual fan of the WNBA.
The Indiana Fever are scheduled to play the Portland Fire on Friday at 10 p.m. ET.
