New York Yankees star Jazz Chisholm Jr. received criticism from former teammate Anthony Rizzo for his conduct leading to an ejection during a recent loss to the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.

Rizzo, who previously played alongside Chisholm at first base for the Yankees, commented on the incident during the NBC/Peacock broadcast. "You just have to be smarter there," Rizzo said. "Jazz is such a big part of this offense and they need to get him going and to get ejected there. …it shows a little bit of immaturity there."

The ejection occurred Sunday night when Chisholm argued a third-strike call. He was ejected from the game after throwing his helmet, despite efforts from manager Aaron Boone and first-base coach Dan Fiorito to de-escalate the situation. This incident contributed to the Yankees being swept by the Red Sox in a four-game series.

Rizzo highlighted the team's current performance, noting that the Yankees have lost seven of their last 10 games. "The team’s scuffling, they need him in the lineup, and now he puts [Anthony] Volpe in a tough position coming in completely cold," Rizzo added.

Following the game, Chisholm reportedly left the clubhouse before reporters were allowed access, opting not to address the ejection immediately. Chisholm joined the Yankees via a trade before the 2024 MLB deadline. He is in a contract year and had aimed for a performance similar to Shohei Ohtani's 50-50 season, a feat unique in MLB history. Chisholm recorded a career-high 31 home runs in 2025 but has 12 this season with 24 stolen bases. His current batting statistics stand at .223/.306/.399 with a .706 OPS, which would be his lowest mark since his limited games in 2020 with the Miami Marlins.

The Yankees are also managing the absence of Aaron Judge, who is on the injured list with a stress fracture in his rib, and there is no current timeline for his return.
