Rivals Spark Conspiracy Theories Over Harry Kane's Ballon d'Or Victory

Wild conspiracy theories have emerged following Harry Kane's historic Ballon d'Or win, with supporters of fellow contenders Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal suggesting foul play behind the scenes. Kane became the first Englishman to claim football's highest individual honor in 25 years, winning the award after a season where he scored 73 goals. The ceremony was held in London, marking the first time since its inception 70 years ago that the event relocated from Paris.

However, the decision has drawn criticism from some rivals and their camps. Real Madrid legend Guti, speaking on the Spanish panel show El Chiringuito, questioned the legitimacy of the win, noting the ceremony's relocation to London. "It just so happens that, for the 70th anniversary, they move the ceremony to London and someone from London wins it," Guti stated. "It's an incredible coincidence that they move it to London and someone from London wins it, isn't it?" He further suggested the win was "orchestrated," citing Kane's surprised reaction as evidence.

Lamine Yamal's uncle, Abdul, also voiced his displeasure in the immediate aftermath of the announcement, telling Cadena SER that his nephew was "fantastic" and "the best player in the world." He added, "If you love football, you go to see Lamine, not Harry Kane." Abdul acknowledged Yamal's youth and potential to win multiple Ballon d'Or awards in the future but argued that Kane, nearing the end of his career, was undeserving. Yamal ultimately won the Young Talent of the Year award for the third consecutive year.

Despite these claims, France Football editor-in-chief Vincent Garcia confirmed that the vote was exceptionally close between Kane and Mbappe. "The two closest were the top two, Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe, and the race between them was decided by very little," Garcia said. He noted that the points gap was smaller than in previous tight contests, with Kane gaining momentum during the voting period.

Footage from the event showed Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele, last year's winner, not immediately standing to congratulate Kane. However, Kane appeared unfazed, celebrating his victory at a London nightclub with friends and former teammates. He later returned to training with Bayern Munich in preparation for an upcoming match.

The Ballon d'Or ceremony in London was held to commemorate the award's first winner, Sir Stanley Matthews, with his family in attendance. The event's relocation was intended as a tribute to the British football legend.
