Ben Rice atoned for a costly ninth-inning error with a game-winning two-run home run in the 10th, leading the New York Yankees to a 4-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday. The win prevented the Yankees from being swept in the three-game series at the Rogers Centre.

Rice's blast in the top of the 10th inning came after his fielding miscue in the bottom of the ninth allowed the Blue Jays to score the tying run. After allowing the automatic runner to advance, Rice crushed a pitch for his 33rd home run of the season.

Relief pitcher Tim Hill entered for the bottom of the 10th and, after allowing the automatic runner to score on a single, secured the save for the Yankees.

Earlier, Yankees starter Ryan Weathers delivered a strong performance, pitching 7 1/3 innings and allowing only one run. He outdueled Toronto's Dylan Cease, who pitched fewer innings.

José Caballero drove in the go-ahead run for New York in the seventh inning with a single after reaching base and scoring in the third.

Despite the late-game drama, the Yankees, now 69-55, gained ground in the American League East standings, moving 5 1/2 games behind the division-leading Rays. The Blue Jays, who fell to 61-65, saw their recent surge toward a wild-card spot cooled by the loss.
