Republic of Ireland Earns First Nations League Win Against Israel
Troy Parrott, Adam Idah, and Jack Moylan score in a dominant first-half performance for Ireland.
The Republic of Ireland secured their first victory in the Nations League Group B3 campaign by defeating Israel 3-0 in Debrecen, Hungary. Three first-half goals from Troy Parrott, Adam Idah, and Jack Moylan propelled Ireland to a comfortable win.
Following a challenging loss to Kosovo, the Irish team delivered a significantly improved performance. Parrott opened the scoring in the 14th minute with his 12th international goal, converting a cutback from James Abankwah. Just two minutes later, Idah doubled the lead after being set up by Moylan, slotting the ball past Israel's goalkeeper Daniel Peretz.
Caoimhin Kelleher, the Irish goalkeeper, was called into action to deny Anan Khalaili. However, Ireland extended their advantage in the 25th minute when Moylan scored his first competitive international goal. In the second half, Israel attempted to rally, but Kelleher made saves against Dor Peretz and Eliel Peretz to maintain the clean sheet. Idah nearly added a fourth goal, but his shot was turned wide by Daniel Peretz.
There were no pre-game handshakes between the teams. The Republic of Ireland players bowed their heads during the Israeli national anthem. The Irish team will next face Austria in Dublin on Thursday, while Israel is scheduled to play Kosovo in Debrecen.
