Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran had another confrontation with a spectator on Saturday, exchanging words with a fan who had been "chirping" at him for several innings. The incident occurred in the eighth inning of the Red Sox's 4-1 victory over the New York Yankees at Fenway Park.
According to reports, Duran, 29, could be seen shouting at a fan seated behind the dugout before teammates intervened. Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy acknowledged the fan's persistent heckling, stating that Duran "had apparently had enough." While Duran downplayed the event after the game, suggesting "nothing happened," the fan was escorted out of the stadium in the top of the ninth inning.
This encounter adds to a history of tense interactions between Duran and fans. In April, he flipped off a fan who allegedly told him to kill himself. The outfielder previously revealed in the Netflix docuseries “The Clubhouse” that he attempted suicide during the 2022 season. Last year, he confronted a fan who he said "crossed the line" by referencing his suicide attempt, and a similar incident occurred again this spring. In 2024, he was heard on a hot mic responding to a heckler with a homophobic slur. Two years prior, Duran feuded with fans behind the center-field wall, with then-teammate Alex Verdugo restraining him amid claims that fans were throwing bottle caps.
Duran is currently experiencing a difficult season at the plate, batting .198 with a .255 on-base percentage and a .360 slugging percentage. He went 0-for-4 in Saturday's game against the Yankees.
