The United States' recent World Cup victory against Bosnia and Herzegovina has captured a record audience, with 30 million American fans tuning in, surpassing the average viewership of the NFL's Sunday Night Football. The broadcast on Fox peaked at 31.883 million viewers for the match, which saw the U.S. team advance to the last 16 of the tournament.

For comparison, the average viewership for the NFL's Sunday Night Football during the 2025 season was approximately 23.5 million, which was a record for NBC. Fox acquired the World Cup rights for $485 million, while NBC reportedly paid around $2 billion for NFL rights.

U.S. Advances Despite Red Card

The U.S. team secured their spot in the next round with a 2-0 win, despite playing the final 30 minutes with 10 men. Star striker Folarin Balogun opened the scoring before Malik Tilmann sealed the victory with a free-kick. Balogun was shown a straight red card following a collision with Bosnia's Tarik Muharemovic, a decision that manager Mauricio Pochettino and player Christian Pulisic believe was harsh.

Balogun's goal was his third of the tournament. He will be suspended for the upcoming match against Belgium in Seattle. FIFA rules do not permit an appeal against the red card unless the ban is extended.
