Rays' Simpson Crashes Into Wall Making World Series Catch

Tampa Bay Rays left fielder Chandler Simpson crashed face-first into the outfield wall while making a leaping catch during Game 3 of the World Series against the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night at Tropicana Field.

The play occurred in the second inning when Brewers batter Sal Frelick hit a sharp liner to left field. Simpson tracked the ball, reached for it, and made the grab but collided hard with the wall.

Simpson held onto the ball, preventing Frelick from advancing to second base and saving a run for the Rays. The impressive defensive effort came as the Rays faced a 2-0 series deficit against the Brewers.

Simpson, in his second year with the team, entered Game 3 with three hits in eight at-bats with an RBI and two strikeouts in the series. The Brewers, like the Rays, were a top seed in the postseason, earning byes into their respective Division Series. Milwaukee had taken a 2-0 lead in the series by winning Game 1 by a score of 3-2 and Game 2 by a score of 5-4.
