Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman was arrested in Georgia on June 3 on charges related to family violence after allegedly smashing the windows of his ex-partner's vehicle. The incident occurred while their three-month-old child was in the backseat of the car.
According to court documents, Bateman reportedly used an object to shatter the windshield and driver's side window of the victim's 2021 Mercedes-Benz. The flying glass caused lacerations and contusions to the woman's face, with officers observing glass fragments during their initial interview.
Bateman turned himself in to the Walton County Sheriff's Office on the day of the incident. Weeks later, he petitioned the court to lift an active no-contact order, which was granted by a judge. The judge permitted contact on the condition that Bateman complete a court-ordered class and refrain from further violent behavior.
The Baltimore Ravens organization is aware of the situation and is cooperating with league officials. "We are aware of the situation involving Rashod and have been in direct communication with him," a team spokesperson told ESPN. "We notified the league office and have been cooperating throughout the process. As this is a pending legal matter, we will not have further comment."
Bateman was selected by the Ravens in the first round, 27th overall, of the 2021 NFL Draft out of the University of Minnesota. He has played in 64 games for the team, recording 157 receptions for 2,147 yards and 15 touchdowns.
