The Baltimore Ravens have signed quarterbacks Kedon Slovis and Austin Reed as the team faces a severe shortage at the position ahead of their "Thursday Night Football" game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Slovis was signed to the 53-man roster on Tuesday after being acquired from the Green Bay Packers' practice squad. Reed was added to the practice squad on Monday. These moves come as the Ravens are in a desperate situation following multiple injuries.
Starting quarterback Lamar Jackson was injured on the first play of Sunday's 36-10 loss to the Bills with a thumb injury and has since been placed on injured reserve. His injury is potentially season-ending.
Backup quarterback Tyler Huntley is also dealing with turf toe, an injury sustained during the game against the Bills. This situation forced third-stringer Joe Fagnano into action, but he also sustained an ankle injury.
Fagnano was limited in Monday's practice, and his availability for Thursday's game remains uncertain. With Jackson on injured reserve and both Huntley and Fagnano potentially sidelined or limited, the Ravens are scrambling for options.
Slovis played college football at USC from 2019-2021 before transferring to Pittsburgh and then BYU. He was on the Arizona Cardinals' roster last season, where Ravens quarterbacks coach Israel Woolfork had previously worked. Slovis appeared in two games for the Cardinals, completing one pass on two attempts.
Ravens coach Jesse Minter faces the challenge of preparing his team for a short week against a strong Jaguars opponent with significant uncertainty at the quarterback position.
