Rasmussen Shines in Rays' Game 1 ALDS Victory Over Yankees
Pitcher Drew Rasmussen delivered a masterful performance, throwing 7 2/3 scoreless innings to lead the Tampa Bay Rays to an opening win against the New York Yankees.
Drew Rasmussen was the standout performer for the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday night, pitching 7 2/3 dominant innings in the team's 1-0 victory over the New York Yankees in Game 1 of the ALDS. The game, played before a sellout crowd of 40,542 at Tropicana Field, marked the first home playoff sellout in 15 years.
"I haven’t seen a lot of nights like this here," Rasmussen said of the electric atmosphere. This was only his third career postseason start, and he quickly put behind him a difficult outing against the Red Sox in 2021 and a brief appearance against Cleveland in 2022.
Despite the high stakes, Rasmussen appeared unfazed. He commanded the game from the mound, allowing his team to build a slim 1-0 lead that held for the duration of his outing. The Rays' offense managed to scratch out the game's only run, and Rasmussen and the bullpen shut down the Yankees' bats.
