Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice stated he is "100% locked in" as he rejoins his team for the upcoming season, following a 30-day jail sentence for a probation violation. The discipline stemmed from a multi-vehicle crash in 2024, for which Rice pleaded guilty to two felony charges.

Rice's probation violation occurred after he tested positive for THC. The 30-day jail sentence was mandated by Texas law, and he began serving the time on May 19, subsequently being released in mid-June. He described the experience as a "learning experience and a reality check."

"Don’t focus on the past. Focus on what’s going on now. I’m doing [well] mentally," Rice said, according to ESPN. He also noted that he was able to undergo surgery for loose bodies in his right knee while incarcerated, which had caused inflammation during his eight games played in the 2025 season.

The NFL previously suspended Rice for six games for violating the league's personal conduct policy, a suspension he served during the past season.

Rice, entering his fourth NFL year, acknowledged the mental challenges of his confinement but highlighted methods he used to cope. "They gave me ways to communicate with my teammates still as well as my athletic trainer," he explained. "Besides the hard times in there, I kept my mind right watching shows and as much Kevin Hart as I could to laugh."

He also maintained a fitness regimen, stating, "I would stretch it, do some activation on it and then hit the weight room and jog, just condition and get the muscle fatigue going as well as my stamina."

Despite off-field issues impacting his playing time, Rice has established trust with quarterback Patrick Mahomes. In his eight games in 2025, Rice recorded 571 yards on 53 receptions with five touchdowns. This followed a strong rookie campaign in 2023 where he amassed 938 yards on 79 catches with seven scores, though he missed significant time in 2024 due to a season-ending knee injury.

"I’m ready to go out there and dominate. I’ve got a good group of brothers behind me," Rice said regarding his focus for the upcoming season.
