Rangers' Garand Pulled After Rough Outing Against Devils

New York Rangers goaltender Dylan Garand's impressive early-season run concluded Thursday night as he was pulled from the game against the New Jersey Devils after allowing four goals on 14 shots. The Devils extended their lead to 4-0 just under five minutes into the second period, prompting the change in net.

Spencer Martin replaced Garand in the Rangers' goal. This marked the first time in Garand's NHL career, which includes six starts and recent appearances due to injuries to Igor Shesterkin and Joonas Korpisalo, that he allowed more than two goals in a single game.

The Devils opened the scoring late in the first period when Evan Rodrigues capitalized on a turnover. The barrage continued early in the second, with Luke Hughes scoring just 18 seconds into the frame. Timo Meier and Arseny Gritsyuk added further goals, sealing Garand's difficult night.

Prior to this game, Garand had posted a 1.15 goals-against average and a .951 save percentage for the 2025-26 season. His strong performances had included a shutout win against the Detroit Red Wings following Korpisalo's injury, and consecutive victories after Shesterkin was sidelined.
