Rangers claimed the top spot in the league after a 3-1 victory over Kilmarnock, but manager Derek McInnes acknowledged that his team had to overcome significant mental fatigue. The win, secured by two goals from Ryan Naderi and one from Kevin Kelsy, propelled Rangers one point ahead of Celtic.

Rangers dominated the first half, scoring all three of their goals. However, the team experienced a noticeable drop in performance after halftime. McInnes attributed this decline, in part, to the prolonged three-week international break, which he believes was too long.

Thirteen Rangers players were away on international duty, with eight of them starting against Kilmarnock despite some only returning to training shortly before the match. McInnes noted that the team's disjointed performance suggested considerable mental fatigue, and he considered freshening up the lineup.

"First and foremost, our job here is to win games of football. The fact that we’ve gone top of the league, we shouldn’t lose sight of that," McInnes stated. "We look like a team that deserves to be top of the league at the moment. Getting seven wins in a row give us a lot of positives, but the performance was disjointed at times."

He added, "Maybe a combination of not putting enough freshness into the team. I was reluctant to change it too much... With the players coming back in dribs and drabs over the past few days, I was convinced, seduced maybe, that everything was fine and good to go. But I actually think that, in hindsight, there was maybe a lot of mental fatigue there in the performance."

Naderi continued his strong form with two goals, building on his match-winner against Celtic three weeks prior. McInnes expressed pleasure with Naderi's continued goal-scoring prowess and his developing partnership with Kelsy. Naderi also recently made his international debut for the Czech Republic.

"I’m pleased for Ryan (Naderi) to pick up where he’s left off," McInnes said. "I’m pleased for Kevin to get his goal. But we have to be honest, we look like a team that hasn’t been together for the last three weeks."

Kilmarnock manager Neil McCann lamented the concession of "cheap goals" in the first half. While his team showed improvement after halftime and scored once through Nicky Clescenco, McCann expressed dissatisfaction with the overall result. "We gifted Rangers three goals," he stated. "It’s not good enough to just win the second half. We need to start winning games of football."
