Rams Suspend Jackson, Release Kicker Mevis After Bills Loss
Offensive lineman Alaric Jackson banned for two games after punching an opponent, while kicker Harrison Mevis is cut following missed field goals.
The Los Angeles Rams have suspended offensive lineman Alaric Jackson for two games after he punched an opponent following the team's overtime loss to the Buffalo Bills. Kicker Harrison Mevis has also been released by the club.
Jackson's suspension stems from an incident after Monday's 37-34 defeat where he approached Bills linebacker Bradley Chubb near midfield and punched him in the jaw. Chubb described the action as "emotions, you know what I mean? Emotional game, it was a close game."
Jackson will miss upcoming games against the Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders. The Rams have signed Blake Grupe from the New York Jets' practice squad to replace Mevis.
Rams head coach Sean McVay stated that Mevis's missed field goal in regulation and another blocked attempt in overtime "cost us the game." Mevis has struggled recently, making five of his last nine field goal attempts and only one of his last four over the past two games.
Grupe, who previously played for the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts, has a career field goal success rate of 81.9% and a 98% extra-point conversion rate in 50 NFL games.
