The Los Angeles Rams may have suffered a significant loss early in their preseason opener against the Kansas City Chiefs, as rookie offensive lineman Keagan Trost exited the game with a hamstring injury.
Trost, a third-round pick from Missouri and a noted standout during training camp, was playing well before sustaining the injury. The team quickly ruled him out for the remainder of the contest, though the severity of the injury remains unknown.
His absence is particularly concerning for an offensive line that relies heavily on the health and depth of its players. Trost had been establishing himself as a valuable reserve, capable of playing both right and left tackle positions. His emergence offered encouragement for the team's offensive front, and Saturday's game was an opportunity for him to further solidify his role.
Rams coach Sean McVay had recently praised Trost's development, noting his steadiness, coachability, and versatility. "It doesn’t seem too big for him," McVay said of the rookie. "He seems real steady, secure to be able to take coaching. You see the agility and the flexibility to be able to play on the right and left sides of the line."
McVay added, "You’re either sinking or swimming and he’s doing a good job keeping his head above water. He’s got a lot of great guys to learn from in that room."
Trost's ability to play multiple positions was a key factor in him positioning himself for a meaningful role this season. The Rams will now await further evaluation to determine if this injury will cause a short interruption or a more extended absence for the promising rookie.
