Rams Release Kicker Harrison Mevis After Costly Misses

The Los Angeles Rams have released kicker Harrison Mevis, the team announced Tuesday. This decision follows a costly performance in the Rams’ 37-34 overtime loss to the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football.

Mevis, 24, missed two critical field goal attempts against the Bills. In the first quarter, he missed a 50-yard attempt, and in overtime, his 48-yard field goal attempt was blocked, a kick that would have secured a victory for the Rams.

Through five games this season, Mevis’s field goal percentage stood at 55.6%, placing him last in the league. Head coach Sean McVay had indicated that changes were necessary due to persistent special teams struggles that have impacted the team's performance.

The Rams have already moved to fill the void, signing kicker Blake Grupe off the New York Jets' practice squad. Mevis's departure marks the first significant personnel change in response to the team's special teams issues. The Rams' loss to the Bills saw their special teams unit contribute to the defeat, prompting the immediate roster move.
