The Los Angeles Rams are reportedly giving Aaron Donald his space as he contemplates a potential return to the team. ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter stated on "Get Up" that the Rams do not want to pressure Donald into a decision, preferring to let him make the choice independently.
"The Rams are giving him his space to make the decision on his own," Schefter said. "They don’t want to say ‘We really want you back. Come back.’ And all of a sudden, midway through the season, he’s saying, ‘Why did I come back?’"
Donald has reportedly been seen at the Rams facility, training as he weighs his retirement decision. The team has extended an open invitation for him to return, but the final decision rests with him.
Rumors of a reunion intensified following the Rams' trade for defensive lineman Myles Garrett, which involved sending Jared Verse and three draft picks to another team. Since the trade became official, Donald has increased his social media activity, posting workout videos and participating in football drills.
Donald, widely considered one of the greatest defensive linemen in NFL history, retired from the league in 2023. During his career, he recorded 111 sacks and 260 quarterback hits. He earned Defensive Player of the Year honors three times (2017, 2018, 2020) and had a career-high 20.5 sacks in 2018. He was a key player in the Rams' Super Bowl LVI victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, notably making a crucial third-down sack of Joe Burrow late in the game.
